In the Awards third year of programming, and as our third year as major partner, we’re proud of the continued commitment of Habitus to seek out the very best in architecture and design, with the 2020 winners and commendations testament to this.
Just a few weeks prior to the Awards evening, the esteemed jury of Paul McGillick - founding Editor of Habitus, Neil Burley - Founder of Burley Katon Halliday and Anibou, David Clark - Design Editor, Commentator and Publisher, Karen McCartney - Architecture Editor, Author and Curator and Howard Tanner – Consultant Architect, collated their thoughts and opinions to formulate the decision on the winner and commendations for 2020. This year we see six outstanding houses receive special commendations from a shortlist of 20.
StylecraftHOME played host to an intimate cocktail event in Sydney on December 3rd with the official awards presentation live streamed to Design Hunters across the Indo Pacific Region. Presented by Habitus Magazine Editor, Aleesha Callahan, the Habitus House of the Year winner for 2020 was Upside Down Akubra House by Alexander Symes Architects.
Set in Nundle, Australia, the house was summed up from jury member Howard Tanner as ‘robust but elegant’. Established on a remote rural property, the house responds to the panoramic landscape and the outback climate in a create but fully functional way.
Congratulations to all winners for this year and thank you to all that joined us for the special evening.
