ARTC

Ellivo Architects were tasked with creating a new home for Inland Rail as part of the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) to house teams delivering thirteen rail projects over seven years.

As the team numbers will fluctuate over that period, the fit-out was required to be adaptable and offer a variety of working environments including collaborative areas, traditional desking and quiet rooms. Additionally, as the building the workspace resides in is Greenstar accredited, Ellivo were required to factor that in to furniture selection choices.

Product by Melbourne based studio Ross Gardam features heavily throughout the design, with the Nebulae pendant light creating a focal point in the reception area and main stairwell along with Adapt lounges and Noon side tables. Italian brand Arper’s Colina armchair also features within the reception area and the palettes reference the many remote communities, the earth that they touch and the robust materials of rail within a Queensland context.

Arper’s diverse collections were utilised to realise the design brief. Cila sled chairs, Catifa 46 barstools and Loop lounges have been selected for seating throughout the fit-out and are easily moved based on the current needs of the ever-changing ARTC workforce.

Ellivo team of designers were tasked with working within a Green star building, and with high servicing and density requirements, and the layout needed to support collaborative, agile working. This was achieved by designing various different types of workspaces such as phone booths, quiet rooms and casual chat areas – as well as more conventional office areas.

Cila sled chairs by Arper are again seen in these more productive zones with Ross Gardam’s Polar wall lights.

The social spaces which blended well with the working environment and feature Scoop barstools by Stylecraft.

The company values are deeply embedded within the space and their sense of community informed the layout and the new way of working. This has encouraged new connections to form naturally within the teams since the project’s completion.
