Located in Melbourne’s King St, the Melbourne City Mission Frontyard Youth Refuge provides emergency accommodation and 24-hour support services for homeless youths under 25. Admirably designed by Fender Katsalidis as a pro-bono project, the upper level houses 18 bedroom and communal areas including kitchen facilities, with the lower level consisting of offices and meeting rooms for the facility’s support services.

The living areas feature an approachable palette and soft materials, intended to create a calming space. The Colourwood dining table with a Japanese Chestnut top and Oak base, along with the Castor barstool by Japanese brand Karimoku New Standard in Oak complement this approach. Downstairs, the support service offices offer private meeting areas for the staff to facilitate consultations. A standing-height Blade table by Thinking Works in a shared workspace and Catifa 46 sled chairs by Arper were selected by Fender Katsalidis for this space.
